At TLO-KYOTO, we have structures to access various research results developed every day at our university partners. In addition to Japanese academic institutions, TLO-KYOTO is collaborating with international partners such as Aalto University (Finland) and the University of Otago (New Zealand) to introduce cutting edge technologies from overseas to the Japanese market.

Commercial Development Support

We support technology transfer of university inventions for you to build a new business.

TLO-KYOTO supports you to build a new business based on research results from our university partners. Our services include; business planning support, license coordination with university, collaborative research coordination and matching service to find a business partner.

4. Collaborative Research Coordination for Commercialization of University Inventions

We can coordinate collaborative research with university researchers when it is necessary for IP licensing.

We also offer support to build your supply chain for the commercialization of university inventions by suggesting potential business partners.

Case 1

Under an Option Agreement, a company may conduct a feasibility study based on the technology for a limited period before licensing.
Case 2 A company may enter into a License Agreement directly in case there is no feasibility study needed.
Case 3

If inventors agree, a company can enter into a Collaborative Research Agreement along with Option Agreement or License Agreement. A competitive research funding may be suggested if any available.
In addition, we support your commercialization of university inventions upon your request by matching upstream and downstream companies.
Case 4 If approved by the IP-owning institution, the patent right may be assigned to a company.
